Watch this great testimonial on the impact of the KidSight program!
According to educational experts, 80% of learning is visual. So if a child can’t see well, he can’t learn well. Yet most young children don’t get their vision screened until they have problems learning or paying attention in school. By then, it may already be too late. Unless vision problems are detected early and corrected, they risk becoming permanent by age 7.
Just last year in Woodbury, the Lions club visited 21 different schools and sites hosting special events! We tested the sight of over 1000 local children referring almost 100 kids to seek an appointment with an eye care professional. And Woodbury Community Foundation last year contributed a $2000 grant to further our efforts! We were able to purchase an optical screening device that we would otherwise have to borrow from neighboring communities.
As Woodbury continues to grow, our goal is to work with community education leaders to reach more and more of our children early in their learning experience at our local schools. Our mission is to ensure eye screening and follow-up care is given to all kids because every child deserves to learn, develop and see the world clearly.
